Epic Gorilla and Chimpanzee Tour in Rwanda

This Rwanda tour will take you to Nyungwe forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. First day is for transferring to Nyungwe National Park, you trek chimpanzees on the second day, then the next day you drive to Volcanoes and you will do gorillas there and transferring to Kigali on the last day and fly out back home.

For you to be able to traverse to these two national parks, you must have bought the gorilla permit at $1500 and chimpanzee permit at $150 while planning your Rwanda tour holiday in 2025. You will be required to buy them before your time of arrival since the number of permits per day is limited. Once you are in these parks, you are not only limited to gorillas and chimpanzees but you can also do other activities in these parks.

Upon your arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our professional tour guide who will take you for a city excursion in and around Kigali. This is to enable you orient yourself with this great country of ‘a thousand hills. After this excursion, you will proceed to Nyungwe forest National Park, Nyungwe is rich in biodiversity and spectacularly beautiful. The mountainous region is teaming with wildlife, including chimpanzees as well as 12 other species of primate like L’Hoest’s monkey to the endemic Albertine Rift.

You will have an early morning tasty breakfast at the lodge, you will start your exciting morning drive to the Nyungwe National Park Headquarters to begin your trek into the indigenous forest in search for the amazing chimpanzees.

This trek gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself into the strange but intimate part of the rain-forest where you will hear live calls of colourful birds, chattering of the monkeys, you will spend one hour when you meet the chimpanzees, take Photography’s and observe as they live their life. You will later return and proceed to have lunch at the lodge and later relax at the lodge to chill from the tiresome and exciting activity of the day.

You can also choose to go for a canopy walk a thrilling adventure that nature lovers and adrenaline junkies should not miss out on if they visit Rwanda and Nyungwe forest for any tour. The canopy walk has now become an iconic activity of Nyungwe forest National Park that does not miss on Nyungwe tour itineraries.

The walk offers breathtaking views across East Africa’s largest and oldest Afro-montane Forest and offers a chance to see at eye-level wildlife that live in the forest canopies but is not easily seen from the ground such as monkeys and birds.

The canopy walk tour starts at Uwinka which is also the park’s headquarters and the round trip takes from 1.5 to 2 hours long. After registering at the Visitor’s Centre, visitors take on a forest trail that connects to the Igishigishigi trail. The forest walk offers a beautiful nature experience and one gets to observe wildlife found at the ground level and enjoy beautiful views of forest clad rolling hills.

You will then transfer to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking passing through the beautiful landscapes viewing the beautiful scenery, en-route lunch and later proceed to Volcanoes National Park, check in and if time allows, you will have a cultural experience by the IbyI’wacu village, you will have an opportunity of participating in the cultural dances with the indigenous people of Rwanda. Get to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Early morning, enjoy a tasty breakfast at the lodge then take an exciting morning drive through the Switzerland of Rwanda Park that is too clear in the indigenous forest for Gorilla trekking the real side of natural beauty. You will be briefed at the park headquarters and later depart for the gorilla trekking experience alongside the ranger guides. Once you find them, you will spend one hour with them taking pictures and later you will return to the starting point and embark on your vehicle and drive to the lodge for lunch as well as an evening rest. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Early morning after breakfast, go for golden monkey trekking before transferring to Kigali international airport for your departure at the same time 7:00 just like gorillas. Trekking golden monkeys and gorillas is a similar experience – in a small group of no more than eight people, and you can spend one hour with the monkeys once you find them. The endangered species are very active creatures, and jump from tree to tree which is really interesting and a little difficult to photograph! This will go for $100 for the permit which allows you to trek these stubborn creatures.

You will take lunch at your lodge then transfer to Kigali international airport for your departure back home.
